• LandCorp supports strong demand for commercial land in Perth’s rapidly growing north
  • University buys prime lot in The Quadrangle, Joondalup to support expansion plans

The popularity of LandCorp’s The Quadrangle estate in the heart of Joondalup continues, after Edith Cowan University (ECU) purchased a cornerstone commercial site to support future growth.

Located on the corner of Hodges Drive and the Mitchell Freeway, the 6.3441ha Lot 9004 is one of the biggest sites in The Quadrangle and occupies a prominent position in the estate.

LandCorp Chief Executive Frank Marra said the purchase by ECU underscored the appetite for quality commercial sites in Perth’s north, and the important role played by LandCorp in supporting growth in the region.

“ECU’s investment reflects the increasing demand for strategically-located land in Perth’s rapidly-growing northern corridor, which is expected to house more than 400,000 people in the next 20 years,” he said.

“With population growth comes additional demand for education facilities in established areas.

“The Quadrangle’s proximity to amenities, public transport and supporting land uses makes it ideally positioned to support this future growth.”

ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman said the land was a strategic acquisition for the university, given its location next to Edith Cowan College and opposite ECU’s Joondalup campus.

“As part of our Strategic Plan 2017-2021 ‘World Ready’, ECU aims to significantly increase our student population and research activity,” Professor Chapman said.

“Having the space to accommodate this expansion will be vital.”

ECU has set a target of increasing its full time equivalent student load by 25 per cent to 23,000 students by 2021. It plans to increase the proportion of international students from 18 to 25 per cent and continue to grow annual research income from grants and contracts.

The Quadrangle comprises 33.95ha of land within the Joondalup Southern Business District, close to Joondalup train and bus station and the Lakeside Joondalup shopping centre, as well as ECU.

“Whilst The Quadrangle is almost sold out, LandCorp will continue to support industrial and commercial growth in Perth’s northern corridor through our Meridian Park estate in Neerabup,” said Mr Marra.

“Interest in Meridian Park has been strong, and we have a range of prime opportunities available to support job creation and training in what is recognised as one of WA’s leading industrial estates.”

The estate is setting new benchmarks for smart, quality design and has a strong focus on the efficient use of land, energy, water and resources through the implementation of sustainable design guidelines across the development.

Meridian Park is within the Neerabup Industrial Area – set to become one of the biggest industrial estates in the North West Metropolitan Corridor, generating up to 20,000 new employment opportunities.
